Purpose of Job

The Bioinformatics Engineer with Data Science specialization at HLI works closely with genomics, bioinformatics and imaging scientists that are developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the prediction of disease risk. The role of the Bioinformatics Engineer is dependent on experience and could include the ETL and maintenance of data stores, the development of AI models, the design of infrastructure to support development, testing and deployment of these models - or all of the aforementioned. The Bioinformatics Engineer plays a critical role in driving innovation through the development of scalable AI solutions and processes at HLI.

Tasks and Responsibilities

* Design Big Data bioinformatics solutions that fit within the enterprise's technology strategy, including recommending frameworks, tools and identifying relevant source data.
* Collaborate with bioinformatics, genomics and imaging scientists to develop and operationalize AI models and algorithms.
* Participate in the innovation, design and development of statistical and analytical solutions.
* Work with scientists and software engineers to develop test strategies and test infrastructure.
* Maintain a current knowledge of data related technologies.
* Follow software development best practices and principles that adhere to compliance regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

* A master's degree or PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, information systems or other related field; or equivalent work experience.
* Hands-on development and implementation experience with distributed architecture solutions.
* Experience with Apache Spark.
* Experience with Docker and container orchestration systems.
* Advanced knowledge of a programming language such as Java/Python and a shell scripting language.
* Experience working with Agile development methodologies and tools.
* Experience working with version control systems.
* Demonstrate outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Excellent verbal and written and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with the full software development life cycle, with particular emphasis on the deployment of AI models.
* Experience working in a regulated environment - CAP/CLIA and/or FDA.
* Professional data science training and/or certifications related to Machine Learning, Big Data, Deep Learning or other similar credentials, is desired.
* Professional data management training and/or certifications related to Web Services Development, Database Design / Administration for a variety of Data Solutions including but not limited to RDBMS, NoSQL, Hadoop and related data management technologies, or other similar credentials, is desired.
