Avionics Application Engineer

Physical Optics Corporation is focused on creating highly innovative, next generation airborne systems, such as flight data recorders, advanced data transfer systems, and mission computer systems for military aircraft. Additional growth areas include ground systems, encryption, electronic warfare, and X-Ray inspection systems. POC is headquartered in Torrance, CA.

POC is seeking an Avionics Application Engineer to join our Applied Technologies Division. This person will be working in a high energy environment that requires passion, creativity, problem solving, and is backed by a strong competency in the fundamentals of electrical engineering. Accepted candidates will have worked on projects that highlight their aptitude for electromechanical design, hands on experience with hardware, and excellent critical thinking.

What you will be doing:

* Provide engineering support of our avionics products by utilizing his/her troubleshooting skills to resolve issues that arise during the product life cycle.
* He/she will have excellent communication skills, a team-oriented approach, an interdisciplinary outlook and strong self-motivation.
* Advocate for the future direction of product development based on customer interactions
* Work closely with engineers and customers to coordinate issues and resolve moderately complex hardware and software interface problems
* Performs troubleshooting of avionics products on an integration rig or aircraft on-site
* Assist in creation of documentation, process engineering change proposals (ECPs) and resolve technical issues associated with customer returns

Experience Guidelines:

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
* Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry (preferred)
* Hands on hardware and electromechanical design experience required (2+ yrs. required)
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both a group and individual settings
* Working knowledge of aircraft systems and their avionics interfaces strongly preferred
* Demonstrated ability to use embedded operating systems (Linux and RTOS preferred)
* Intermediate proficiency w/ MS Office
* Familiarity with Cadence, Creo, AutoCAD and MS Visio (preferred)
* Willingness to travel 10% or more of the time
* Candidate must be willing to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
