We are looking for an empathetic and passionate engineer to help us build researcher tools that will enable the next decade of scientific discovery in human medicine.

In this role, you'd be on a team with other engineers, a product owner, and a scrum master building Terra (https://app.terra.bio/). Terra is a flexible platform for scientific discovery that allows researchers to perform data analysis in the cloud at previously unattainable scales. Scientists at the Broad use this platform every day to power their world-renowned scientific and medical research.

Your role would include:

* collaborating with your teammates to deeply understand our users' needs
* working closely with our customer support team to uncover our users' pain points and help them solve their problems
* incorporating our design and user experience team's work into our React-based UI
* building your craft as an engineer by creating strong relationships with your mentors
* contributing to the emotional safety of the team by practicing vulnerability, honesty, and compassion

You will be working in a deeply collaborative, supportive engineering environment where experimentation and failure are valued because of their contribution to growth and innovation. Your manager is a former engineer with decades of experience and a strongly-opinionated but lightly-held engineering philosophy.

Minimum requirements:

* some familiarity and experience with software development tools either through a university degree program, trade courses, or personal hobby
* excellent communication and listening skills and an ability to build understanding between yourself and others
* the ability to admit your own mistakes and learn from them as well as the ability to forgive the mistakes of others and help them learn
* a desire for a career in software engineering

Any of the following additional skills would make you an ideal fit for this role:

* familiarity with JavaScript and/or UI development
* experience with React
* ability to provide candid, honest feedback to your peers and your manager

Experience in genetics or biology is great, but not necessary to succeed in this role.

The interview:

The only coding we will ask you to do will be a take-home assignment that we will review with you on the day of your interview and ask you to modify. We do not believe in whiteboard-based coding interviews. We care just as much about your frame of mind and attitude as we do about your technical prowess.
