Job Description

The Associate Network Engineer will focus on build-out and support of the The New York Times corporate and datacenter networks involving routing/switching, security, monitoring and NMS technologies supporting Web presence. They will be contributing in the design, implementation, documentation, analysis, testing and operations of these networks to ensure that customer needs and requirements are met.

Responsibilities will include:

* Independently research and provide input both to business and technical solutions based on and related to customer needs and specifications and deploy them into our production infrastructure.
* Monitor, test, analyze and evaluate the existing network environment and optimize it based on resiliency, technological advancements and cost
* Responsible for day-to-day implementations and operational issues.
* Responsible for documenting system maintenance, enhancements and performance for effective network operations and management
* Be part of an on-call rotation to monitor, analyze and resolve critical networking issues and incidents, including on an emergency basis
* Travel in support of implementations will be required.

The Associate Network Engineer will need to have most of the following skills:

* Experience required: 1-4 years
* Experience with scaling automation networks and tools
* Experience with scripting languages
* Experience with Linux command line environments
* Experience with routing and switching technologies in datacenter networks
* An understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite
* Understanding of tunneling technologies
* Understanding of Routers and Switches
* Understanding of firewall technologies
* Understanding of Load Balancing Technologies
* Understanding of WiFi technologies
* Conceptual knowledge of BGP, OSPF, IGMP, PIM & RSTP/MSTP
* Ability to systematically troubleshoot issues
* Ability to find elegant solutions to unique problems
* Ability to precisely document design and plan implementations
* Detail oriented work ethic
* Relevant certifications are a plus
* Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
* Ability to take charge of a situation and act on own initiative
