Application Engineer - Control Systems & Automation

Job Description

Novaspect, Inc., an Emerson Impact Partner, the global leader of automation systems and solutions, is currently offering an opportunity for an Application Engineer in our fast paced, customer orientated Application team, based in Schaumburg, IL. The successful candidate would assist our control system customers in the development, delivery, maintenance, and optimization of our state of the art process control solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Work with our customers in:
* Build a trusted relationship
* Understand their goals and the obstacles being faced
* Gather information to help develop solutions that best meet those goals
* Design and implement control strategies
* Provide an ongoing communication channel to ensure customer expectations are well understood
* Manage customer expectations so there is a clear understanding of technological capabilities and limitations
* Work at customer facilities and comply with their safety rules
* On-site control system modifications and tuning
* Provide improvement and changes to Distributed Control Systems to meet changing customer needs
* Distributed Control System commissioning and startup
* Distributed Control System, field instrumentation, and valve related situations troubleshooting and problem resolution
* Setup interfaces to PLCs, Drives and Bus-Based Networks
* Provide ongoing site support which may include:
* Troubleshooting field instrumentation and valve application
* Control configuration optimization
* Loop tuning
* Microsoft Windows administrator functions
* Ethernet IP networks
* Interfaces to PLCs, drives and various control bus networks




* Work to grow Novaspect
* Develop new opportunities and enhancements to existing systems
* Work as a team with internal and external sales to sell solution


* Work as a team
* Provide distributed control system troubleshooting and resolve problems individually or by utilizing your internal resources
* Help colleagues as they encounter situations they are not as familiar with
* Work independently and as part of a team supporting a customer


* Provide clear and frequent communications
* Perform diagnostic control system troubleshooting over the phone
* Create in-depth and professional engineering proposals and reports
* Converse with other industry experts about technical concepts
* Deliver presentations to external and internal customers
* Articulate and communicate engineering and solutions to both engineers and non-engineers



Education and/or Experience:

* B.S. or M.S. in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* 5+ years of experience in the control system engineering field
* DeltaV experience preferred
* Field application of industrial instrumentation preferred
* Microsoft administration and TCP\IP networking knowledge a plus

Additional Requirements:

* Own and maintain an individual learning and development plan
* Travel up to 75%

Physical Requirements:

* Ability to lift up to 30lbs
* Ability to work extended hours on a computer
* Ability to work in a loud industrial environment
