Database Administrators are needed in many different companies and industries in order to install server software, configure databases, create accounts for users and assign security levels, evaluate data analysis models and help train a company's employees in the use of the database. As such, Database Administrators must have strong skills when it comes to IT as well as communication in general. They should also be familiar with industry-standard languages and platforms such as SQL, UNIX, Lenox, Oracle, HTML and Rman.
Database Administrators generally need at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, and many positions will also require two years worth of professional experience or an equivalent internship. PostgreSQL certification is looked upon highly, and Database Administrators are expected to be able to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance.
