Back in the day, people used to shake hands.
Really, they did.
It was an act of goodwill in effect saying "Trust me". These days, we all have mobile devices in our hands, and we use them to make decisions with the swipe of a thumb.
We need to make quick decisions about where to stay tonight, who walks our dogs, watches our kids, tutors our teen-agers, fixes our roof or stays in our house. The "neighborhood" now extends to anywhere, and "sharing platforms" are allowing us to use peers to do our work.
Therein lies the problem, sharing sites provide little information about how to make these decisions: 5 star reviews are information poor, easily manipulated and constrained by platform. Why haven’t platforms done more? Because Trust, Safety and Quality are not either priorities or competencies of sharing platforms.
