Vessel is a premium video service that gives passionate fans early access to short-form videos from their favorite creators, enabling members to watch those creators’ videos and shows first on Vessel before they are available elsewhere on the web for free.
Creators offer their new videos exclusively on Vessel for a limited time, typically 72 hours, after which they are available for free on Vessel and anywhere else creators want to make them available (whether it’s on their own website, on YouTube or elsewhere).
The Vessel experience was designed for mobile devices, which enable fans to snack on videos wherever and whenever they want. Vessel offers these videos through a curated, beautiful and creator-first platform that is accessible via mobile apps for iPad and iPhone (and soon, for Android) and via Vessel.com for only $2.99 a month.
On Vessel, fans will discover an amazing variety of videos, representing virtually any interest: music, food and travel; beauty, science and vlogging; gaming, pranks and sports; comedy, ideas and pop culture; and many more. These videos —from many of today’s most talented video creators, channels and artists— are enjoyed by hundreds of millions of fans around the world.
Vessel was founded in 2013 by Jason Kilar and Richard Tom, the founding CEO and former CTO of Hulu. The company’s investors include Benchmark Capital, Greylock Partners, Bezos Expeditions, and Institutional Venture Partners. Vessel is based in San Francisco.
We believe in a world where consumers can enjoy top quality content online – a world where creators can build real businesses and take their productions to new heights.
HOW WE INTERVIEW & HIRE ENGINEERS
We are seeking versatile engineers who can work with multiple languages, frameworks, and platforms. We're firm believers that if you are a solid engineer in one area, then you can quickly grasp the others. Our engineers have diverse backgrounds and come together to contribute to all of our projects across engineering.
In addition to tech skills, we also want people who are entrepreneurial, self-motivated, tenacious, and possess high judgment. We value collaborators who like to share what they know and embrace what they don't know. We prize innovators with a strong passion for end users. We appreciate those who are okay failing, but know how to pick themselves up and to see things through - for the long haul. Read more about our values below:
Our interview process starts out with an initial introductory call with one of our recruiters. If there is a match after the call, then you will be scheduled for a one-hour phone interview with one of our engineers to cover coding. We do this over the phone in the programming language of your choice.
If the phone interview goes well, we'll invite you to visit our office in SOMA (South of Market) in San Francisco to meet with other members of our engineering team and our founding CTO. Our engineers will cover algorithms, design, and more coding during the onsite interviews.
Regardless of where you are in our interview process, we will move as quickly as we can and aim to provide you with feedback as soon as possible after each stage of the process. This is just one of the ways that we aim to provide an exceptional candidate experience.
