The founder had the idea for a freight transportation marketplace for a long time, but held off building it until he found the right approach. Creating a two-sided marketplace is difficult to tackle head on because of “chicken-and-egg” challenges. Silicon Valley helped to formulate the idea for Trucker Path’s first mobile app, which puts all the information truckers and trucking companies need to know at their fingertips.
Trucker Path released a crowdsourcing app that allowed to plan a smart trip in early 2013, followed in 2015 by Truckloads, an online marketplace specializing in connecting freight companies to carriers. In March 2015 the applications were used by 100,000 active users, which had grown to 400,000 (25% of all Class 8 truckers in the U.S.) by September of the same year! The main Trucker Path application for iOS and Android platforms provides information for truck operators, including locations of truck stops, weigh stations and car wash facilities specialized for trucks. Information gathered on the location of these stops was gathered based on user generated input and ratings.
In early 2015, Charles Myers, joined the company as the vice president of business development, after acting as the general freight manager for uShip, being the president of freight posting service Getloaded (sold in 2008), and Director of International Business Development at England Logistics. As the well-known and recognized industry expert, Myers made a significant impact on the company with his experience and connections. In July 2015 Dave Holt joined the company as COO, a recognized Silicon Valley veteran, serial entrepreneur and executive (ATI, Disney), to help the company growth. Trucker Path also has number of great advisors, including Tom Fallows, founder of Google Shopping Express and now one of the top product directors at Uber.
