Our story starts in 2013 out of a class at Stanford University. Co-founders Federico, an avid world-backpacker and traveler, and Elliott, whose family's business is in the hotel industry, realized hotel's revenues were being crushed by super high commissions from online travel industries and wanted to level the playing field. They spent that quarter ignoring their other classes and focused on building out the initial Travelnuts booking engine. That summer, co-founder Luca joined the party, bringing with him his 4 years at McKinsey, and with it order to the chaos that was just Elliott & Federico. The team spent that summer in Vegas building out the product and talking with the large hotels there, living in a one bedroom apartment with one bunkbed and one mattress on the floor (you'll have to guess who slept where).
Fast forward a year+, and the company is still doubling its customers every few months, and working hard to build the world's best booking engine. The team has grown to 8, with 5 on the engineering side, and all the while still maintaining its awesome culture.
At Travelnuts, we pride ourselves on having a culture of high-performance individuals who take strong ownership over their projects and the company. We foster an environment conducive to learning and collaboration, where no one hesitates to speak up whether it is constructive criticism or to suggest a new awesome feature to build. We like to think its cool to care - about each other, the company, and personal development.
