Tegus is a primary research platform powering the investment decision making process for the world's top institutional investors. Our platform helps investors get direct perspective from former executives, customers, consultants and competitors of companies they’re considering investing in, providing actionable insights and shortening the time it takes to make a well informed investment decision.
Tegus began when twin brothers, Tom and Mike Elnick, quit their jobs, moved into their grandfather’s apartment in California and embarked on an entrepreneurial journey to create a first of its kind primary research platform.
Prior to starting Tegus, Tom was an investment analyst at a hedge fund in New York, where he was responsible for evaluating and recommending public equity investments. To do this, Tom would complete hundreds of expert calls as part of his research process. Mike, on the other hand, was an early employee at AlphaSights, an expert call service, that facilitated these expert calls for Analysts like Tom. Both brothers had run into their own sets of challenges. Tom found that the time and cost of primary research and expert networks was unpalatable, while Mike was seeing the problem of cost, overhead and operations of working at a primary research firm. They realized that together, they could solve both sets of challenges.
And so, the idea for Tegus was born...
Tegus offers expert calls to our customer base, just like other expert call services, but in addition to facilitating these expert calls, Tegus provides something of even greater value: a smart-searchable database of thousands of instantly-available transcripts of investor-led expert calls. At Tegus, expert calls are recorded, transcribed, and made available to all investors with an annual subscription to the Tegus platform. These transcripts provide answers to investor questions instantaneously, and since the content is being created by investors, it is highly specific and relevant to other investors who are reading later on. Because our revenue is generated from annual subscriptions to our platform, we can offer expert calls at the fraction of the cost of our competitors, making Tegus expert calls extremely cost disruptive in the cost conscious market we now find ourselves in.
With this business model, in 2020, Tegus has doubled in terms of headcount and revenue, sitting at over 100 employees at the start of Q4.
