What is Pensight?

We are a seed stage London startup with a mission to build infrastructure for online education. We have just launched the early version of our platform and have raised a $3M seed round to build and scale it further. At Pensight we are obsessed with independent online creators (youtubers, podcasters, teachers, coaches) and want to help them make a living by interacting with their followers and communities.

You may have heard about the booming creator economy and the idea of 1000 true fans (if you have a 1000 true fans who give you $10 a month, you can make $120k a year and be a full-time creator) but what you might not have heard is that currently only the top few percent of creators make any meaningful income.

We are helping the smaller creators thrive by allowing people such as Jordan make money by simply talking to their followers and answering their questions. With over 50M creators just on the top platforms, there are thousands of Jordans out there who need this service too.

What could I work on?

Below is the list of the projects that we are working on now. We have labeled what expertise each project requires but keep in mind that it is all a team effort and you would not be alone!

In-browser video call app. We have a custom video call application that is powered by WebRTC (and Twilio). We want to re-build it with features such as group calls, call recording, whiteboarding.

Video questions & answers. Heard of Cameo? It's like that but for knowledge: clients type or record their questions and experts on Pensight send back video answers. All within our web app. We want to simplify and rebuild the in-browser video recorder.

Cloud-based video call recording. One of the most commonly requested features. Turns out it's not so simple to do if you want it to scale, cost little per call, and make recordings easy and instantaneous to view.

Back-End, Distributed Systems, Work Queues, Kubernetes, Docker, Kotlin, ffmpeg

Chat & feed. Our experts and their clients interact via a custom-built chat & feed hybrid - think of it as Slack meets Instagram. It has to be real-time, it has to be fast and it has to be pleasant to use. Both the back-end and the front-end will have to be re-built. Likely by you.

Availability engine. Do you think you can build a better Calendly.com? Can you design a storage format and a service for integrating with various calendar providers and keeping a local and up-to date view of our expert calendars (such as TimeKit)? Can you build a perfect UI for our experts to set their availability for meetings?

Profiles & customization. Our expert profiles are like storefronts (for an example see Jordan). They have to look playful, beautiful and trustworthy and they have to drive conversions. We like to iterate and experiment (we're now on iteration #4). Also, our users have been asking to make the profiles more customizable.
