About Moonfish

We believe travel has the power to transform people. Whether it’s exposing you to new ideas and experiences, allowing you to recharge, connecting more deeply with loved ones, or bridging the distance between friends and family, travel plays a pivotal role in our lives. Moonfish exists to make those experiences more accessible, and to help people lead their most interesting lives.

Today, we do that by processing massive amounts of flight pricing data to find the best deals, personalized for you. We know that one of the biggest barriers to travel right now is cost, so we’re focusing on that first. Over the next several years, Moonfish will continue to grow into every part of your travel experience.

Who are we?

We’re a small team of ex-Facebookers that architected Facebook's search engine, built Facebook's adtech products and grew it to $2BN+ in 2 years, and we've also worked on mobile, youth, and growth. Our team also:

• Founded/sold a healthcare tech company to reduce readmissions from heart attacks and heart failure
• Served tens of millions of teachers, parents and students at an education tech startup
• Worked on cybersecurity with the NSA and FBI
• We have some of the best backers and advisors including Accel, co-founder of Google Flights/ITA, ex-head of Global Ops at Airbnb, co-founder of OpenDoor, partners at YC, execs from Facebook and Twitter, Plug and Play Travel, etc. We’re built on flask and python, hosted on heroku/AWS, with data stored primarily on postgres.

You can expect to work on:

Anything and everything. At this early stage, you will find yourself:

• Re-architecting our big data infra to lay the foundation for us to scale over the next several years
• Introducing robust system alerting and monitoring and driving a culture of observability
• Designing extensible notification systems and other core infra that lets the whole team iterate quickly
• Helping us implement a lot of growth techniques we’ve gleaned from our time at Facebook
• Understanding user needs and building core UX flows that are simple, effective and delightful
• Participating in design critiques. An eye for design is not necessary, but definitely a plus
• Weighing in on strategy. Every voice is important to help inform our decisions
• Defining the culture of Moonfish. As a significant percentage of the team, who you are shapes who Moonfish is
