LoyaltyLion was founded several years ago by Charlie (ex-Deloitte) and Dave (ex-Sun Microsystems and Oracle). We spent 12 months doing some serious bootstrapping – using a friend’s lounge as an office, renting the cheapest accommodation (it had no bathroom!) and taking government loans to make LoyaltyLion a success. Happy to say it’s paying off.
At LoyaltyLion our goal is to provide the best loyalty programs for merchants and the best experience for shoppers. We're already used by thousands of stores worldwide and millions of shoppers.
LoyaltyLion augments and improves each store's existing brand, and that's why merchants love us. As convenient as Amazon is, we don't want a world where that's the only option - there are thousands of fun, niche and quirky stores out there who can't compete on price and that's why we started LoyaltyLion.
LoyaltyLion is backed by EC1 Capital and Downing Ventures plus, among others, the co-founder of Europe's largest loyalty program and the former e-commerce director of ASOS.
Engineering at LoyaltyLion is always interesting as we need to build for two distinct sets of users: merchants and shoppers. To make it extra difficult, we never talk directly to shoppers because we're white-label - that makes our internal tracking and analytics even more valuable so we're not in the dark.
We're a small, agile team with a strong focus on the product - everything we build has a purpose and provides value. When it comes to development, clean and safe is our number priority. All our services are backed by strong test suites, and we strive to make our deployment process as deterministic as possible (we use Docker, ECS and Terraform).
Our core applications are built using Node.js and Ruby alongside PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ and Elasticsearch. Our front-end development uses React, Redux and TypeScript.
