Longshot Systems

Longshot Systems started life as the hobby of our founders, Mark and David, who used to work at Betfair - the online sports betting exchange. In their spare time they began developing fully automated trading strategies to trade their own money on the Betfair Exchange and found out they had a bit of a knack for it, so in 2012 they left Betfair to go full time on developing even more sophisticated trading strategies and building out their technology platform to do so.

In 2016 they founded Longshot Systems Ltd to begin hiring people to work alongside them on their technology stack and researching and developing new strategies. We've since grown to a team of 11 people split across two main teams. Our Platform team develops the core infrastructure in Golang that connect to Betfair's API as well as other trading venues and handles trade execution, low latency odds distribution and the back-end systems that make that magic possible. Our Modelling team works on the strategy code that makes the trading decisions - that stack is mainly Python based and makes heavy use of the NumPy/SciPy ecosystem, as well as a framework called Ray for distributed computation of arbitrary Python code on our AWS clusters.

We're a small, close-knit company of highly talented software engineers, mathematicians and machine learning experts and we're looking to expand. We're currently hiring for the modelling team and we're looking for experienced Python engineers to help develop the tooling and infrastructure we use to train and develop our models.

We're looking for intellectually curious engineers who enjoy learning about new technologies and techniques, solving problems and encouraging engineering best practice. We have weekly research afternoons where each member of the team reads up about a new topic, technique or technology that interests them and discusses or presents it to the rest of the team afterwards to ensure we're always learning and staying on top of recent research and technologies.

We've got a pretty relaxed atmosphere here with team lunches / after work drinks a regular occurrence (our local pub does excellent Thai food, we go frequently). Our customary office hours are week days, 10 til 6. We don't much like peak rush hour. If that doesn't suit, let us know and we can talk, we're flexible. Our office is based in Marylebone, London.
