LendInvest’s position is quite unique compared to other peer-to-peer lenders: We were a lending business first.

Our co-founders, Christian Faes and Ian Thomas, set up a short-term mortgage lending business called Montello Bridging Finance in late 2008. As financial markets around the world fell apart, they saw an opportunity.

At first, business at Montello was slow. However, this gave us time to evolve our credit underwriting processes, and to get things right. Over the course of the next few years, Montello became recognised as one of the leading short-term mortgage lenders in the UK.

In 2012, Christian and Ian started looking at ways that technology could be used to improve the way things are done with mortgages. As part of this, they became particularly fascinated by peer-to-peer lending, and could see the possibilities this could bring to mortgage market. LendInvest was spun out of Montello and launched in May 2013.

We’ve always said that we’d prefer to be a lender learning the tech, than a tech business learning how to lend. At LendInvest we have many years of hands-on experience, as a lender, and our track record is unrivalled.

In June 2015, LendInvest received £22m of equity investment, in what was the largest FinTech investment in a UK business ever. This capital allows us to continue our significant investment in technology, and to recruit the most talented people to join our team as we build our business.

Today we are the world’s largest peer-to-peer platform for property.
