LabGenius’ mission is to build a closed-loop platform for the evolution of new biological components. Since the advent of life 3.8 billion years ago, the survival of all species has depended on rapid innovation at the genetic level. At LabGenius, we're harnessing evolution to develop a new generation of biological products in partnership with world-leading multinationals.

LabGenius is a venture-backed startup founded by Dr James Field in 2012. We recently closed a £2M seed round from top deep-tech investors to mature and automate ‘EVA’ - our AI-powered evolution engine.

Cross-functional teams are key to making our work effective, and we do all that we can to enable learning between disciplines, from weekly tech talks to workshops. To further that end, our lab is built into our office, to improve collaboration between the work of our scientists and our engineers. We support working from home when needed, and our hours are designed to be flexible - we work hard, but we don't believe in sacrificing work-life balance in the name of success!

How We Interview & Hire

We start with an introductory call, where you'll chat with our head of engineering about your experience, and run through a few quick technical questions. After that, we'll set you up with a technical test, which we limit to 3 hours - we don't want to eat into your valuable time! We'll then invite you into our offices, where you can meet our team, see our lab, and run through a couple of different areas:
- We'll review the take-home exercise - explaining why you did what you did, and explore the problem further
- There'll be a few technical questions to more thoroughly assess your technical skill and understanding
- And we'll dive into your experience and whether we'd be a great fit for each other

If all looks great after that, our founder/CEO James will have a quick chat with you, as a final sense check. We invite questions throughout - if there's anything you want to know about us at any stage, please do ask!
