Our History
Kaplan, like many great companies, has humble beginnings. Our founder, Stanley H. Kaplan, started out in his Brooklyn basement tutoring students on the new college entrance exam called the SAT. His primary objective was to give students an edge and ultimately "beat the test". As more colleges began using the SAT to screen applicants word began to spread about Stanley's business.
The appeal of top-notch teachers, specialized study materials, personalized service, and of course higher test scores caused admissions hopefuls to beat a path to Mr. Kaplan's door. When Mr. Kaplan discovered that one of his students had been flying in from the University of California at Berkeley to attend his classes, he knew it was time to expand nationally.*
Stanley's passion for education and teaching was the start-up of not just a company but an entire industry, The Test Prep industry.

The success of our business is directly related to our ability to recruit and retain talented professionals who share the same altruistic mission Stanley had so many years ago.
Our employees are teachers, technologists, designers, scientists, administrators, business developers, strategists, leaders, and visionaries. We still have the same goal to help students "beat the test" but we're now in a fortunate place where we can help students beat many tests or even develop new core industry skills by attending one of our acquired bootcamps such as Dev Bootcamp, Metis or Advisestream. The Kaplan backed bootcamps are just another part of our mission to help people realize their educational potential.
How We Interview & Hire
Due to the diversity in types of careers at Kaplan Test Prep our hiring process varies. As a general rule of thumb, you can expect a phone interview followed by a google hangout, and then an in person Interview. Our technologists are given a skills based test and our teachers must pass an audition before going through training. Most of our full-time hires will interview with a business stake-holder since our businesses are tight-knit teams who take a genuine interest in colleagues joining the group.
