About FloodFlash
80% of the world’s catastrophic flood losses aren’t insured. That’s a $58bn bill each year for governments, businesses and people. The problem is getting bigger too, because of climate change, population growth and urbanisation. This is what we are working on at FloodFlash. We combine computer models, cloud software and internet-of-things technology to protect those that the insurance industry leaves behind.
Today there are 23 of us. In the next six months we’ll be 50+, across two continents. We are a passionate team with a range of backgrounds and skills. What we have in common is our shared values, and that together we plan to solve a problem that devastates millions of lives around the world.
Backed by some great VC investors who share our vision for the growth (and impact) of this kind of insurance, we are just over a year old. Our team is small, passionate and friendly. We offer a flexible working environment where we value each other’s skills, and trust and help our colleagues to deliver against their goals.
What it's like to be an Engineer at FloodFlash
- In such a small team flexibility is key, and developers take ownership of all aspects of their software, so you can be involved with product management, DevOps, QA, as well as core development
- Cloud infrastructure is at the heart of our software platform, so you'll be deploying, building and monitoring our applications and platforms with AWS
- We place great emphasis on autonomy and trust each other to get the job done. We work hard and are passionate about our business, but find time to enjoy ourselves along the way.
- There'll be plenty of opportunities for development in other areas outside of core software expertise, if that's something you're interested in.
- We take a modern approach to building and deploying software, and work hard to get changes live on production as rapidly as possible: build, test and iterate!
How we Interview and Hire
We want our process to be as efficient as possible, whilst still allowing us both to make sure we're a fit for each other and so it typically looks like the below two stages:
- Introductory call with Josh (Head of Technology) to understand if you're a good match for us, and we're a good match for you!
- Come down to FloodFlash HQ where you'll meet the team, the Co-Founders, and go through both technical and cultural interviews.
- If you're successful, we'll make you an offer!
