Back in 2011, Tom and Nicola were watching their children playing on tablets, when they realised just how much potential there was in using technology to teach. As both are maths teachers, they began to create a unique app that would combine all the different learning styles, work alongside class-taught maths lessons, and encourage children to learn in a fun and personal way.
Looking back, the company has come a long way from that initial eureka moment. DoodleLearning has released four apps covering maths, times tables English and spelling content from ages 4 to 14, curriculum-aligned to five different countries, which have been downloaded and used by more than one million children. DoodleLearning is used in hundreds of schools, not just in the UK but internationally too – and this number continues to grow.
We don’t believe technology is there to replace teachers, but we do believe it can truly enhance the level of teaching someone is able to provide. It’s virtually impossible for a teacher to know the exact strengths and weaknesses of every individual student when teaching such a vast curriculum, but our technology can provide the data and the tools to enable them to do just that at the touch of a button.
We’re proud of what we’ve built, not least because of the studies and constant feedback demonstrating that DoodleLearning really works to improve not only ability, but confidence, which is no easy task!
