Darby Smart is the leading video platform where video creators can turn their hobbies into side hustles. We are creating a new economy for creatives. Darby Smart has video creators filming and publishing videos on beauty, recipes and DIY and reaches over 35 million monthly viewers.

Engineering At Darby Smart

The team has a flat structure, with people working on everything from APIs, to the iOS app, to the Web site, to the video transcoding worker system. We operate in 2 week cycles, with Engineering collaborating with Design, Marketing, Sales and Community on the feature-set to hit a particular goal. We use github and pull requests for coding and code reviews. We strive for a low-overhead environment, where engineers can focus on building.

We are less focused on being process-driven but instead are behavior-driven. We value engineers who :

• have a drive to make an impact - they strive not to waste any minute of time and meet or beat ambitious goals
• demonstrate complete ownership of their work and their decisions - they live up to their commitments and care about ensuring their features and updates are successful
• collaborate effectively with the whole business - realizing that this achieves better outcomes than they could by themselves, and demonstrate craftsmanship
