Carrot Inc. is a digital health company using wearable tech, personalized coaching, and clinical practice guidelines delivered at scale to engage and empower millions of people to quit smoking.

Smoking is a huge unmet need and there has been little innovation in this space. There are 40M US smokers and 1B WW smokers, 500,000 annual US deaths and 6M annual WW deaths, and $300B annual US excess health care costs and lost productivity. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality in the US. Cigarette sales WW, sadly, exceed one half trillion USD.

Carrot was started by David Utley, and was initially funded by Khosla Ventures and Utley (seed 2015, A 2016). Carrot just closed on a new $10M round to launch in commercial pilots, finish FDA, and build their commercial pipeline. Investors in this recent round include R7 Partners, Marc Benioff, Khosla Ventures, Utley.

The total addressable market (US) for Carrot is $80B.

Utley graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1992. He then did his surgical residency training at Stanford in general surgery, head and neck surgery, and facial plastics and reconstructive surgery, and was then on the surgical faculty at Stanford and the VA Palo Alto focusing on the treatment of patients with head and neck cancer.
