    Brighten was founded after our friend, Oliver passed away and we saw an outpouring of support on his Facebook page. Oliver was a shy kid who would have had so much more self-confidence if people would have told him these things while he was still alive.

    Brighten is a positivity-focused community that empowers people to make their friends feel appreciated. We recently launched and have experienced impressive organic growth. Within 6 weeks we are top 10 in Social Network section and top 50 overall in App Store ahead of Linkedin, Tumblr, and Periscope.

    Tech stack

    iOS is simply in Swift. Our API is in Python and Scala, we run it on AWS using ELB. We run on Ubuntu machines, we use nginx as a reverse proxy. We use Postgresql for persistent relational data and Redis for cached data. Our messaging queue is RabbitMQ.
