BECOCO Be Confident

BECOCO is an early-stage fashion tech startup that's looking to change the way that women shop for clothing online. We've had some great successes during our short time - we've won two highly competitive Innovate UK grants, just raised a £350k seed round pre-product and pre-traction, and built some exciting new tech for automatically profiling clothing and generating recommendations. Now we're looking to push on to the next level.

We're looking for a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to take the reins of the ML tech development, build up our capabilities, bring in fresh insight and ideas, and grow the team. You would be joining a small, grown up and highly collaborative team comprising the Founder/CEO, our creative director, our fashion stylist advisor, several freelance web developers and our technical advisors. You would take over a technology stack that includes a bank of CNNs and ML models for automatically detecting, segmenting, clustering and classifying fashion features from retailer fashion photos, a dataset of 300k (and growing) fashion products, and $40k of cloud computing credits with GCP / BizSpark. You'll be someone who thrives in the fast-paced nature of an early-stage startup, and on wearing other hats occasionally (including advising on the technical strategy for the core products, managing the technical infrastructure, and working on the website to make sure that the new ML tech integrates with it).

Our Founder/CEO is a passionate person with a big vision. After having worked a considerate amount of time in a highly competitive and men-dominated industry in London, she realised how important it was to be and feel confident. Now, there are many ways that can make us feel confident and all of them are important. She decided that she wanted to help people look the best way they can so that they can concentrate on what they are best at and on being amazing at what they do. That's why she founded BECOCO.

The need for this product is twofold: 1) the large majority of advice consumers receive today revolves around the latest trends or what celebrities wear, completely disregarding what actually suits and flatters the individual. 2) At the same time retailers face increasing return rates: 33% of clothing bought in the UK is returned. In Germany, return rates reach as high as 70% (!). By far the main cause cited for returning clothes is poor fit and suitability. Not only does that frustrate consumers and cost them money, it costed UK retailers a staggering £20BN last year. We believe this is a problem worth solving!
