Founded in 2017, Anchorage is the most advanced crypto custodian, providing institutional investors with a new and safer custody solution.
Our mission is to advance institutional participation in the digital asset class. We’ve started with solving the biggest problem facing our industry: making it safe for institutions to hold and use crypto. We’ve built the most secure digital asset custody solution on the market, and on-boarded some of the leading institutional investors in the space as clients, including Blockchain Capital, Polychain, Paradigm and a16z crypto.
Institutional investment is currently bottlenecked by a cold storage security model that’s failing to meet the needs of institutional investors. That’s why we’re building the first crypto-native custodian, bringing the best of security engineering to digital asset custody. By providing financial institutions with a new and safer means of safeguarding their investments, we are securing the foundation of the crypto financial system.
We’ve raised $57 million from leading investors including Andreeseen Horowitz, Blockchain Capital, Khosla Ventures, Polychain Capital, Visa and #Angels, and serve clients whose combined portfolios total over $1 billion. We announced our $40 million Series B in July 2019 led by Blockchain Capital. Previously, we raised a $17 million Series A led by a16z. In addition to venture capital partners, we’ve also brought in a number of strategic angels and individual investors.
Our Co-Founders, Nathan McCauley and Diogo Monica, led and built security from scratch at both Docker and Square. Collectively, they are responsible for Docker’s security infrastructure, which underpins 40% of services running on Amazon Web Services. In addition, they are credited with the cryptography patents on Square's ubiquitous card reader.
