Hardware Engineers are in a rewarding career that is highly sought after by many companies throughout the country. They are responsible for researching, designing, modifying and testing computer systems and their components such as processors, memory chips, circuit boards, routers, video cards and networks. Once a design has been created, Hardware Engineers will spend a great deal of time thoroughly testing the design and gathering large quantities of data as well. As such, one must be very detail oriented and be an analytical thinker in order to succeed. At the same time, Hardware Engineers will need to update existing computer equipment and components so that they are compatible with new software drivers. Thus, strong communication and documentation skills are needed.
Hardware Engineers need to have at least a four-year degree in an accredited computer engineering program. However, many companies will also require work experience or a master's degree as well.
