The role of a Backend Engineer is critical to the success of a website. A Backend Engineer’s job is multifaceted and includes responsibilities like designing and creating system architecture and services for various web projects and build robust and scalable software using programming languages like Java, Scala and Ruby. Backend Engineers also help improve code quality through automation, writing unit tests and performing code reviews. The job of a Backend Engineer is often a collaborative effort. Backend Engineers coordinate with Frontend Engineers and other members of the technical team. They attend brainstorming sessions and have opportunities to contribute their ideas to company technology, algorithms and products. They frequently work with design teams to gain understanding of what the end-user needs and transform this into an effective technical solution.
To apply for a job as a Backend Engineer, applicants need to meet certain requirements. Most companies require that applicants for a Backend Engineer job have at least a bachelor degree in computer science or a related field. Some companies also require previous experience in hands-on coding and software design. Solid OOP and software design knowledge is also an important skill. Backend Engineers should be able to create software that can be extended, reused and meets the architectural objectives of the company. In addition to knowing coding languages like Ruby and Java, Backend Engineers should have experience with Linux/Unix and scripting languages such as Perl and Python. There may be other technologies specific to a company, so a willingness to learn new information and technology is also a plus.
