I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) is seeking a Systems Administrator, REDCap. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Research, and collaborating with the Department of Information Technology, the Systems Administrator, REDCap, is responsible for participating in new installation, ongoing technical support and end user education to staff and faculty researchers that utilize REDCap - a global, HIPAA compliant electronic data capture system.

This position is responsible for installing, configuring, and administering the high-impact operating system of REDCap in support of business operations at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The core responsibilities of this role are to provide software installations and upgrades, to regularly administer and monitor them and schedule future upgrades, and to ensure system integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing technical solutions (both software and hardware). The position will also work to maintain a data/media recovery plan that includes regular backups and archiving, and develops and promotes standard operating procedures. Additional responsibilities include providing training and documentation to users, liaising with vendors and other information technology resource partners at GW, gathering user requirements, and troubleshooting errors/future needs.

Duties:

* Acts as the REDCap primary user expert and point of access for the organization while ensuring PHI and HIPAA compliance; Provides leadership for special projects in areas of translational research data management and research project management.
* Develops, delivers, and maintains SMHS specific REDCap policies and systems training; Disseminates end-user education and training materials, including hosting office hours, training sessions, and presentations.
* Provides regulatory application guidance to Physicians and Clinical Investigators by advising how to manage data and private health records in the REDCap system; Builds relationships with end-users / labs / groups as point-of-contact for technical assistance with REDCap.
* Executes solutions to end users and provides assistance in the direct integration of technology into research protocols and projects.
* Leads the installation and testing of software upgrades and new features; Performs testing to ensure functionality of new features; Reviews projects for proper user and role configurations to ensure security compliance.
* Maintains list of open queries with researchers and communicates list to group in weekly meetings.
* Fully leverages the system's capabilities through function design in support of clinical research studies, and ensures data integrity and quality.
* Ensures data sets are built in a way they will respond correctly for analysis by providing application support guidance; Coordinates and facilitates regular audit activities.
* Maintains a sound understanding of Clinical trial data management (e.g. Vanderbilt Coursera course incorporates REDCap).
* Develops and maintains REDCap technology advancements through community lists, publications and conferences.
* Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

* Advanced proficiency as a REDCap project leader and user. Prior experience in PHP preferred.
* Direct Clinical Research experience.
* Demonstrated understanding of PHI and HIPAA regulations.
* Advanced analytical, conceptual and technical problem-solving abilities.
* Understanding of data integration issues (validation and cleaning), familiarity with complex data and structures with a keen interest in programming.
* Ability to provide excellent customer service across all levels of the organization.
* Ability to apply diagnostic techniques for problem troubleshooting.
* Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
