I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The School of Business Office of Information Technology Services (OITS) is the primary technology services provider for the George Washington School of Business. OITS implements technology strategy, policies, and operational procedures in support of the School's instructional, research, and administrative functions. Serving a total user population of over 250 faculty and staff members spread across five different locations, OITS provides fast, reliable, and efficient service in response to current and developing needs in a timely and agile manner. OITS follows basic ITIL guidelines to manage both internally and externally developed/outsourced projects. OITS administers and maintains the School's heterogeneous end-user computing environment comprised of Mac OS, Windows desktops, and a server-side infrastructure. In support of this mission, OITS is seeking a Systems Administrator to contribute to the team's goals by leveraging specialized knowledge and technology.

This position is responsible for installing, configuring, and administering a large number of high-impact operating systems and servers in support of business operations and research. The core responsibilities of this role are to provide software and OS installations and upgrades, to regularly administer and monitor them and schedule future upgrades, and to ensure system integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing technical solutions (both software and hardware). The position will also work to maintain a data/media recovery plan that includes regular back-ups and archiving, and develops and promotes standard operating procedures. Additional responsibilities may include providing training and documentation to users, liaising with vendors and other information technology resource partners at GW, gathering user requirements, and troubleshooting errors/future needs. This position reports to the Director of Information Technology. The position does not have direct reports but may train OITS staff and student workers on policies, procedures and complex systems support.

Other responsibilities:

Deploy and maintain Linux and Windows machines on-premises and on the AWS cloud;

Perform security assessments of IT infrastructure and applications, risk management and mitigation, and manage various security aspects to protect data integrity, network and computers on premise and on AWS cloud;

Provide audiovisual support for classrooms and events as well as troubleshoot, resolve, manage and record problems reported by users, including the management of the daily workflow and priorities of the user ticket queue in an efficient manner;

Participate in on-call rotations with other team member and work a flexible schedule to accommodate systems maintenance outside of business hours.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Solid desktop and server support and troubleshooting hands-on experience with a variety of hardware platforms running Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems, peripheral devices and office and statistical applications

Good experience in supporting multiuser networks (50+ users) desired.

Knowledge of virtual desktops and ticketing tools (Remedy or Heat) is a plus.

Solid knowledge of Active Directory and cloud technologies (Amazon AWS is highly preferred).

Good understanding of networking in both wired and wireless networks.

Solid knowledge of systems security implementation and maintenance. Experience with patch management and hardening of Windows and Linux servers is desired.

Basic scripting skills is desired.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting a variety of audiovisual equipment (microphones, audio switches, converters, etc.).

Extensive knowledge of desktop and server anti-virus, threat management, and threat removal techniques.

Ability to work independently and as a member of a small strong team to meet goals and objectives
