The AWS Networking team develops and operates the network platform, network software automation, and network tools for all of AWS, including US Public Sector facing cloud computing solutions. Are you ready to own deployments and operations of AWS' US Public Sector cloud IP network software systems and tools? Are you experienced in managing teams of Linux Systems Engineers with a passion for running highly-available systems and services at scale?

The System Development Manager is responsible for a team of highly qualified systems engineers who deploy and operate our purpose built innovative network software solutions. He/she will develop strong working relationships and collaborate with our network software development teams to ensure timely availability, dependability, and stability of all networking software systems and tools. He/she will lead new software capabilities and framework introduction efforts; own and manage continuous software deployments to ensure currentness of existing systems and tools; have responsibility for 24x7 operations of all networking software stacks and environments; enhance existing tools and build new tools as required; and manage security compliance efforts for these software systems.

The System Development Manager will be responsible for scaling, standardization, optimization, technology refresh, and day to day operations of all networking systems and tools, while ensuring any networking software related escalated operations events are mitigated and satisfactorily resolved with speed and precision. He/she will proactively drive process development and iterative refinements to maintain version currentness, functionality validation/testing, trustworthy usability, and stability of the network systems environments. He/she will hire, develop, and grow a great team, set priorities, and deliver sustained improvements. This leader will improve our network software automation health by developing and delivering key operational metrics that point us to critical risks and problems, and drive rapid closure. He/she will relentlessly enhance our metrics and processes to continuously improve availability and performance. Our leaders are technical - have been there, done that - and understand their environment to accurately represent highly technical issues and matters; as well as exercise sound judgment during high severity events.

Physical requirements:

* Must be able to work in a 24x7 managers on call rotation environment, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs.
* The ability to sit in front of computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
* Travel to data center sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
* Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

Position may be located in either Herndon, VA 20170 or Seattle, WA 98101. Relocation assistance would be offered (pending qualification guidelines).
