Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Job Description

The role of a Site Reliability Engineer combines the two disciplines of systems engineering and software engineering. Site Reliability Engineers, also called SREs, are responsible for building and running fault tolerant systems. Additional duties of a Site Reliability Engineer include providing support services for system design consulting, developing software frameworks and platforms to go live and performing whole lifecycle services. SREs also work on scaling systems to use automation and other mechanisms.

Candidates qualified for a position as a Site Reliability Engineer should have a minimum of a bachelor degree in Computer Science or another technical field where they learn computer languages such as Ruby, Peryl, C, C++, Go and Python and coding skills. Site Reliability Engineers should have knowledge of how to optimize code, debug code, automate routine tasks and analyze and troubleshoot various systems.
