The job of a Site Reliability Engineer combines the disciplines of software engineering and systems. Site Reliability Engineers work on whole lifecycle services to engage and support them. They also build and run fault tolerant, large-scale systems. Additional roles of an SRE include developing software platforms and frameworks to go live, provide support services like system design consulting and scales systems that use mechanisms and automation.

To be hired as a Site Reliability Engineer, applicants should have strong knowledge of coding languages such as C, C++, Python, Ruby, Go, and Peryl. They should be able to debug and optimize code and analyze various system issues and troubleshoot them. Most SREs have degrees in Computer Science or a similar technical field.
