In the world of project management, there are two basic roles: Project Managers and Program Managers. Program Managers are similar to Project Managers, but focus on multiple projects simultaneously as well as the umbrella programs they fall under.
Program Managers define projects, determining the strategy and implementation as well as how projects are delegated as needed. They set the milestones, define budgetary guidelines, manage documentation and oversee communications between key stakeholders for each project's respective lifecycle. After projects are completed, Program Managers continue to focus on how they benefit the program as a whole. Savvy Program Managers must be expert communicators, as they interact with everyone from production to C-Suite level employees at any given stage of project development. The also must have a keen awareness of costs and timelines and be able to work with multiple teams routinely.
