Product Designers design everything from consumer products, medical devices and computer hardware to digital apps. They work with product development from start to finish, beginning with brainstorming, drafting initial sketches and 3-D modeling through material selection and manufacturing, keeping deliverables on time and within budgetary guidelines.
Product Designers work with larger teams to create a successful product, including marketing, finance, production, sales and logistics. They also meet with clients, component manufacturers and vendors, and provide extensive reporting to all key stakeholders and internal teams. After a design is complete, Product Designers often engage in continuous quality improvements based on user feedback to ensure their creations meet consumer expectations. To satisfy these tasks, they must be expert problem solvers, understand customer mindsets and be expert communicators, as well as be proficient with sketching and rendering software.
The information technology industry has six main pillars: hardware, software, services, infrastructure, information and satisfying business objectives. Within this broad framework, talented Product Designers can create a wealth of platforms, for the consumer, corporate, government and non-profit industries.
