Solutions Engineers generally support the presales process for software and hardware solutions when it comes to customers wanting to take on tasks that they currently are unable to do. As such, they need to have strong communication and analytical skills in order to understand a customer's needs and current network technology and then be able to write proposals and strategize with their own team of salespeople, programmers, engineers and testers.
Because of all this, Solutions Engineers are frequently the first point of contact when it comes to client interaction, and as such, they will often be required to help de-escalate situations when a customer's expectations are not met. Once solutions are in place, they are often also needed to help train customers and offer ongoing support. In terms of education, this position usually requires at least a four-year college degree in computer science or a related field of study.
