There are many jobs in the sports industry ranging from professional athlete to physical therapist. Sports medicine is a growing job area within the industry and generated 19 billion dollars in 2016. With so many popular sports in the United States, the range of jobs available is massive. Magazines and newspapers publish sports-related content, venues host competitions, games and tournaments and entire stadiums are devoted to home teams for big-league sports. These venues generate many sports-related jobs such as stadium workers, vendors and many others. Marketing is another area that provides many jobs that are generated by sports teams and organizations. Advertising and sports apparel are profitable and prolific businesses spawned by the industry.

One need not be an athlete to work in the sports industry; hundreds, perhaps thousands, of distinct jobs surround the industry. Professional sports teams are often managed by executives with business experience. There are many career paths within the sports industry, many of which can be started with formal educational programs in accredited schools and colleges. Several current job trends will continue to shape the industry in coming years. These include fan safety, innovation in the way ticketing is packaged and sold, social networking to appeal to young fans and an increased sense of social activism that has the potential to open even more jobs. The sports industry is a tremendously diverse industry with many jobs from which to choose.
