Systems development jobs consist of creating and coding the background software that supports the development of applications. Web developers are responsible for designing applications and software that work in a variety of web browsers. Software Engineers working in embedded systems development create software and computing systems that work in vehicles and other devices that are not computer based. Most Software Engineering jobs require a bachelor's degree in math, science or software. Ideal candidates have experience with common computer applications and systems. In-depth knowledge and experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML. C++, C and other programming languages are also recommended.

The Software Engineering field is rapidly growing. The increased complexity of technology, newly emerging industries and venture startups, as well as the reliance on mobile technologies, create demand for those with the right skills in this field. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that those in the Software Engineering fields can expect a 22 percent increase in the number of jobs available in the field between 2012 and 2022, and that number is expected to continue to grow as new technologies and demands emerge.
