A Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is a professional who engineers, alters and maintains software with a particular focus on reliability and performance. SREs work from the standpoint of systems development, as opposed to the operations side. In this role, usability is optimized with the main tool used to solve and prevent issues is available software. SREs are often grouped with DevOps engineers in terms of job functions and while both roles must face any challenge, identify issues, find a solution and uphold system usability, Site Reliability Engineers develop their own platforms and manipulate code as needed to ensure a systems function as needed.
