Engineering Managers use their experience to direct and coordinate engineering projects. They typically work in an office setting and oversee a staff who work on a range of different tasks. On a given day, an Engineering Manager may have to engage in research and development, check the performance and accuracy of a variety of staff projects and confer with managers from other departments. Engineering Managers may find themselves on the worksite at times, but their most important tasks relate to preparing budgets, supervising staff and streamlining administrative procedures. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted a 6% rise in the demand for Engineering Managers by 2026, which accounts for about one thousand new job openings per year.
