Engineering Managers organize, plan, direct and control the technical and engineering operations of a company. They help with the creation of solutions in order to resolve complex issues. These specialists are tasked with supervising and leading a team of engineers. They write performance reviews, as well as prepare bids and contracts. Engineering Managers will discuss with their team the project specifications along with detailed plans to keep everything on schedule and on budget. Engineering Managers initiate procedures, standards and administrative policies. They will also provide final approval of products being manufactured and consult with upper management. These specialists understand project management, finance, accounting, information systems and Lean Sigma or Six Sigma. They have strong analytical, math, communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills. Engineering Managers may also have PEM certification.
