DevOps Engineers are IT professionals. They're either systems administrators with a passion for coding and scripting who move into development or developers with an interest in network and deployment operations. DevOp Engineers work with system operators or SysOps, software developers and others to oversee code releases. They may prepare test data, analyze results and troubleshoot issues that are then relayed back to development. These specialists manage the IT infrastructure to support software code in hybrid or multi-tenant cloud environments. They may direct the testing protocol in order to validate release and monitor the performance. DevOps Engineers understand software development languages like Ruby, Python, Java, C#, C++ and PHP. They will be familiar with continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, Salt, Ansible, CruiseControl and Chef. These specialists will have strong interpersonal skills, as well as experience with software architecture, application programming, database management and system design. Some DevOps Engineers may also be certified in Scrum, as well as risk and project management.
