A Project Manager can work in a variety of industries such as technical fields, construction, aerospace, marketing, advertising and many more. While specific duties may vary based on the type of industry and needs of the company, one thing Project Managers in any field have in common is that they are responsible for overseeing the scope and direction of the project. A Project Manager's duties include creating a budget and ensuring that the project is on budget, planning all aspects of the project, tracking and documenting its progress and overseeing a team of junior employees. Often, Project Managers work closely with their upper management, reporting on the progress of the project.

Depending on the industry and level of expertise required, a Project Manager may need to have at least a Bachelor's degree in a field related to the project. Project Managers also typically have experience working under someone else on projects that are similar to the one they are tasked with. However, these details really depend on the company and type of work that the Project Manager is responsible for. Regardless of the type of project, a Project Manager in any industry should have a skill set that enables them to be successful in this role. Skills that employers look for include analytical skills, time management, budgeting and leadership. The ability to lead a team is particularly critical because Project Managers will rely on their team to help meet goals and deadlines.
