Engineering Managers may be divided into several categories including systems engineering, industrial engineering, management science, product engineering, operations management and management of technology.

In order to pursue an Engineering Manager career, it's helpful to have both an engineering and a business degree. Engineering Management courses vary from mathematical, management, operations, engineering and industrial fields, and are typically designed for graduate students. Applicable work experience, certification, a MEM and a PEM are all necessary to becoming an Engineering Manager.
