The Product Designer helps in the planning and production of an array of consumer goods. As part of the design process, they will take customer wants and make them into reality. This might include creating models, storyboards or prototypes. They are also responsible for details like materials selection, quality control and validation. Along with manufacturing companies, the Product Designer can also find employment with design firms and new entrepreneurial ventures.

To become a Product Designer, formal education is required in a related field. Some common majors include product design engineering, industrial design, mechanical design or manufacturing/design engineering. Along with educational training, personal traits and problem solving ability, mechanical skills, math aptitude and strong communication skills are necessary.
