Their duties may include designing and implementing new network solutions, establishing the network environment and installing or upgrading network equipment. Network Engineers may also be responsible for firmware updates.

Network Engineers work in almost any industry, often averaging 40 hours a week. Most Network Engineers have a degree in computer science or a related field as well as general or vendor-specific network certifications. With more companies making the move to IT network solutions, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects high job growth for Network Engineers.
