Network Engineers design, create and develop network systems. They are tasked with establishing the networking environment and implementing new solutions. They also help maximize network performance by troubleshooting network problems, resolving network outages and monitoring network speed and performance. Network Engineers may be responsible for setting up security firewalls as well upgrading equipment firmware.
Network Engineers often work alongside other IT specialists like computer system analysts and database administrators. Most Network Engineers have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field like computer engineering, computer science or a related field. They may also hold professional certifications like the CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional).
