A Systems Administrator is largely responsible for the operation, configuration and maintenance of computer systems. They are in charge of acquiring and testing new hardware, keeping an accurate inventory, organizing the documentation and resolving any technical problems. Systems Administrators are asked to ensure uptime, performance and security while staying within a budget. Daily duties of a Systems Administrator may include adding, updating, or removing user account information, resetting user passwords and adding, configuring and deleting file systems. Systems Administrators are usually required to have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar field and IT professional qualifications will be considered an advantage. Systems Administrator jobs can be found at companies like IBM, Lockheed Martin, Google, Cisco Systems and Microexcel.
