In terms of education, Site Reliability Engineers need to have at least a four-year college degree in computer science or a related technical field that uses coding, such as physics or mathematics, because the position is very technical and detail oriented. Most Site Reliability Engineers are typically fluent in one or more of the following computer languages: C, C++, Java, Ruby and Python.

Site Reliability Engineers also must have an analytical and creative mind in order to identify and tackle the various issues that come up. They also should posses excellent communication and documentation skills as they will be working with a large team in an office setting.
