Data Engineers primarily work with raw data, transforming it into an easily analyzed format by developing, maintaining and testing different infrastructures for data generation. Data Engineers usually work closely with data scientists. They are in charge of creating solutions for the data scientist so that they can do their job effectively. Data Engineers have at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, electrical engineering or applied math. For more senior roles, employers prefer a master’s degree or even certifications like the IBM Certified Data Engineer or Google’s Certified Professional. Companies that employ Data Engineers include Visa, United Health Group, Facebook, Amazon.com and Semantic Bits.
The electronics industry, specifically the consumer electronics industry, encompasses the manufacturing and distribution of small electronics used by the public. This can include portable music players and GPS devices as well as larger equipment such as electric motors, radar and navigation systems, and communications systems. The industry employs a large array of specialties including engineers, designers, customer service reps and salespeople. According to the Bureau of Labor, the Electronics Industry is looking at a 7% increase between 2016 and 2026. Many of the job opportunities will be found in research and development, manufacturing, telecommunications and within the federal government. Large employers like Samsung or Mitsubishi may require international travel and foreign language knowledge while smaller companies can offer more creative flexibility.
