Computer Vision Engineer Job Description

The Computer Vision Engineer specializes in virtual technology such as video feeds and imagery. Some areas a Computer Vision Engineer might work in include face recognition, camera calibration, computer vision and surveillance. As an engineer, they are often responsible for designing, building and testing software and machine solutions. They may also write technical documents, analyze data and debug software to support video equipment.

Technology companies such as Amazon, Cybercoders and Google are major employers of Computer Vision Engineers. However, retailers, automotive, logistics and engineering companies may also hire these scientists to aid in product development and to improve operations. Computer Vision Engineers work side by side in think tanks with other technology experts such as software developers, research scientists and project managers.

Computer Vision Engineers might be experts in language processing, machine learning, software development, robotics and mobile applications. Advanced education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering is required for most jobs; however, a Ph.D. is often preferred. A knowledge of GPU computing, deep learning and C++, Linux or Python programming is also helpful to one’s success in this job. These engineers must have strong analytical and organizational skills, be creative, innovative and have a passion for problem solving.
